FIGHTING THE PALMETTO PIPELINE IN SOUTH CAROLINA
After months of meetings, public discussion, protests and pushback from concerned groups, which even prompted a statement from Governor Nathan Deal opposing the project, the Georgia Department of Transportation denied Kinder Morgan’s certificate for the right to eminent domain. This was a great victory against the reckless, unwanted and unnecessary Palmetto Pipeline. However, the fight is far from over. In South Carolina, no such permitting process exists, leaving citizens unprotected. The Push Back the Pipeline Coalition is working with partners and legislators to amend a bill which would protect SC landowners from eminent domain abuses like Kinder Morgan's current endeavor. It is crucial that we come together now to pass this, so Pipe Up, South Carolina! Contact Governor Nikki Haley and your Representatives to let them know: SC residents want their voices heard. We CAN and we WILL push back this pipeline. The coalition is now urging citizens to record their own comments in response to the threat of the Palmetto Pipeline, and to share them with [email protected] and on social media using the hashtag #pipeupSC. A public meeting organized by Push Back The Pipeline will be held on Thursday, June 4 at 5:30pm at the Historic Home of General Samuel McGowan, 305 North Main Street, Abbeville, SC 29620, where video comments will be collected for submission to South Carolina legislators. |
